Green Space Tender Brief

How Green Space Tender Brief works

  1. Fetch. Every morning a script downloads the previous day's notices from the official Find a Tender OCDS API and the Contracts Finder OCDS API. Requests are sequential and rate-limited.
  2. Filter. A notice is included when its main CPV code is a grounds/landscaping/tree code, or its title says so (for example "grounds maintenance", "grass cutting", "arboricultural", "tree works"), or a secondary CPV code is backed up by the description. Words like "play area", "landscape assessment" or "patent landscaping" exclude it.
  3. De-duplicate. The same opportunity on both portals, or republished as an update, is shown once (with both links). Anything we've already sent you isn't sent again; changes are listed separately.
  4. Explain. The summary is built from fixed templates using the notice's own fields (buyer, value, dates, procedure) plus pattern matching on the text for TUPE, frameworks, site visits, insurance and accreditations. No generative AI is used, and nothing is added that isn't in the notice. There is no human review, so always read the official notice.
  5. Renewals. We read past award notices (Contracts Finder back to late 2022, plus recent Find a Tender awards) and list contracts lasting at least 9 months whose stated end date is 3–12 months away. Each one appears once in the daily email when it enters that window, and the Monday email lists all those ending in the next 3–6 months.

Accuracy

We hand-checked random samples of matched notices. Four rounds of checks on 40–60 notices each found 80%, 82%, 82% and, after the rules were tightened, 92% (46 of 50 tenders and early notices) were real grounds/landscaping/tree work. We estimate we catch roughly 85–90% of relevant notices on the two portals; vague titles with generic codes are the usual misses. Borderline cases (for example park construction works) are the main source of noise.

Licence

Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Source data: Find a Tender and Contracts Finder (Cabinet Office). We have no connection with the Cabinet Office or the buyers. Supplier names come from published award notices; where a supplier looks like a private individual we don't repeat the name.
